Barto, Dennis James, “Skipp”, 64, Johnstown, passed away July 26, 2015.  Born August 20, 1950 in Johnstown, son of Edward and Elizabeth (Repko) Barto.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers; former father-in-law Edward Mayer; and numerous aunts and uncles. Survived by children, Keith, married to Ashley Gelvin, Colorado; Kourtney, married to Brian Penatzer, Johnstown; Kara, married to Len Eakin, South Dakota; and Katie, married to Brian Necaise, Virginia; grandchildren, Hailey and Ian Barto, Olivia and Aubree Eakin; girlfriend, Kim Strazzere and dog Kirby; former mother-in-law, Catherine Mayer; former wife, Cindy (Barto) Pinkowski and husband Bill Pinkowski; granddogs, Kyanne, Jack and Libby; and numerous family and friends.  Skipp was a 1968 graduate of Johnstown High School.  After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed upon the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA-42. He served from 1968 to 1972 as an aviation electronics specialist out of Patuxent River, MD. After service, he attended Allegheny Technical Institute for electronics.  He was hired by Teleprompter Cable TV in 1977.  He worked in many capacities in the cable industry for 36 years ending his career as a Headend Technician with Atlantic Broadband, where he met and befriended many of his lifelong friends. Skipp enjoyed traveling with his girlfriend, Kim and to see his children and grandchildren. He was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan. He loved attending Colorado Rockies, Altoona Curve, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Washington Nationals baseball games with his children. Skipp was a fan of fine dining and “Wiener Wednesday” at Coney Island. Skipp’s greatest joy was meeting new people and putting a smile on everyone’s face. He was always good for a joke or story and enjoyed living life. He will be sadly missed by all who were honored enough to call him his friend. At Skipp’s request, there will be no visitation or service. There will be a memorial picnic at a later date. Cremation handled by Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. In lieu of flowers, the “Skipp Barto Memorial Fund” has been set up at First National Bank in Johnstown to be distributed as part of an educational endowment for students accepted to a technical or trade school.
