SWANGER – Raymond “Ray” C., 77, Johnstown, died Saturday, April 25, 2015, at home. Born July 24, 1937, in Johnstown, son of the late Paul and Marie (Blawn) Swanger. He also was preceded in death by brothers, Philip, Lawrence, John and Norbert “Bud” Swanger. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol L. (Berkebile) Swanger, whom he married Oct. 23, 1954; daughters, Susette Harchick, and husband, Michael; Linda Lear, and husband, Randy; Melissa Oswalt, and husband, Thomas, all of Johnstown; four grandchildren, Derek and Jared Lear and Brady and Jadyn Oswalt; sister, Agnes Marie Lopez, Johnstown; sister-in-law, Janice Swanger, Glen Burnie, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Swanger served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked as the produce manager at Thorofare Markets and then at Conemaugh Hospital as a histotechnologist for 17 years, retiring in 2002. Ray was a member of Resurrection Parish and was an avid golfer. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Resurrection Parish, the Very Rev. Alan Thomas, VF, officiating. Committal, Grandview Cemetery, with military honors by the Menoher VFW Post 155 Honor Guard.
