Burrows, Robert J., 81, Johnstown, died August 30, 2014, at Windber Hospice. Born October 16, 1932, in Johnstown; a son of the late William J. and Madeline (Motter) Burrows. Robert is predeceased by his sisters June Tuite and Billie Sturey. He is survived by his companion of 28 years, Marion Ross; children, Marilyn Evans and husband Tom, Mifflintown, PA; Roger Burrows, Daisytown; his grandchildren Roberta, Jaime, Sarah, Lynn, Michael, Madeline and Olivia; Great Grandchildren Olivia and Eliza Leister and Lacy and Lexi Lentz; his sisters Margaret Margic, Ebensburg; Eileen Lehman, Richland; and his special nephew Larry Lehman, Richland.
Robert proudly served this country in the 136th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army for 24 months, and spent 18 of those months on the front lines of the Korean War. He retired from Bethlehem Steel where he worked as a Machinist, he enjoyed motorcycles, he drove cross country, and he enjoyed hunting and black powder shooting. Robert was a life member of the Windber VFW where he will be remembered for his sense of humor. He was also a member of VFW Menoher Post 155 as well as the Franklin VFW. Friends will be received at the Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd Wednesday from 2-4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, Pastor Nancy Hoover officiating. Military honors by the Windber VFW Ritual Team. Committal at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
