Cherney, Stephen J., 86, Middle Taylor Twp., went home to be with the Lord February 18, 2017, at Windber Hospital. Born December 14, 1930, Johnstown, son of the late John and Catherine (Hanechak) Cherney. Preceded in death by his sister, Mary Murphy; and brothers, John, Anthony, and Michael Cherney. Survived by his loving wife, Isabelle J. (Burkett); children, Mary Salat and husband, Robert, Johnstown; Susan Kauffman and husband, Steve, Vinco; Ann Peters and husband, Rev. Donald, Kittanning; Stephanie Querry and husband, Tim, Naples, FL; and Rebecca Randazzo and husband, Joe, Raleigh, NC; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and extended family Aaron, Melissa and Brady Snyder.  Steve served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Bethlehem Steel after 33 years of service. He was an amateur radio operator since 1955, broadcasting on station K3UYD. A memorial mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 22, 2 p.m., Resurrection Roman Catholic Parish, 324 Chestnut St., Rev. George M. Gulash, officiating. Family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Stephen’s honor.
