Obituary

Guydo, Joseph J. Sr., 89, Johnstown, passed away October 8, 2016 at Allegheny Lutheran Home. Born September 15, 1927 in Hollsopple, to the late Crist and Mary (Jarosz) Guydo. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years Vida A. (Mastovich), his siblings Victoria Lucas, Blanche Klymowich, Helen Guydo, Alec Guydo, Frank Guydo, Walter Guydo, and John Guydo. Survived by his children Debra Work and her husband William, Rochester, NY; Joseph J. Guydo Jr. and his wife Patricia, Johnstown; Sonja Girgos and her husband John, Florida; and Chris Guydo, Somerset; he is also survived by his grandchildren, Nathan, Lauren, Lynda, Elizabeth, Steven, Keith, Greg, Heather, Chelsea, Courtney and Kiersten; great-grandchildren, Eli, Marlee, Tabitha, Evan, Mason, Cassidy, Harper, and Tyler; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was a Tech Seargent in the United States Army, and served during World War II. He was a Steelworker employed by Bethlehem Steel. He was a member of the Watchmakers Guild, a trained locksmith, he was also a volunteer at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, and Windber Hospice. He was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed bowling, and playing horseshoes, he was also an active member of the Retired men’s club, and was well known in Johnstown as “Bandshell Joe”, because of his association with the Roxbury Bandshell Preservation Alliance, and his frequent singing appearances there. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was an all-around fun guy, and will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Forest Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe’s memory to the Roxbury Bandshell, In care of the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, 116 Market St. Johnstown, PA 15901.
