Angeline “Jean” Nikonow was welcomed into the arms of Jesus after a full life filled with love on March 26th 2017 at Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown. Jean was born August 11th, 1932 in Johnstown, PA. She was the wife of the late Paul “Nick” Nikonow and daughter of Helen Kolnacki Passero and Carl Passero. Jean’s most passionate loves in life were her four children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as the best mother and grandmother on earth. Outside of adoring her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom she was extremely dedicated, Jean enjoyed the ocean, opera, cooking, traveling and reading. She was intelligent, kind, selfless, nurturing, and deeply loved by her family. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul “Nick” Nikonow, to whom she remained faithful and dedicated to throughout her entire life. They were united in marriage on January 7th 1956 and they are finally together again. She was also preceded by many close friends whom she cared for deeply. Jean was strong, courageous, and inspiring to everyone who knew her. Jean is survived by her four children: Thomas Nikonow, Alan Nikonow, Paul Nikonow (Marie), and Karen Egazarian (Gregory), beloved grandchildren: Trisha Nikonow Anderson (Joseph), Tara Nikonow Morgan (Geoffrey), Paul Nikonow (Jessica Grech), Brian Nikonow (Alaina), David Nikonow (Hanna Ryan), AJ Nikonow, Alivia Nikonow, and Maximilian Egazarian, great-grandchildren: Taylor Anderson, Kennedy Anderson, and Keller Nikonow. She is also survived by her brother, Carl Passero and her niece, Carla Passero. Jean’s family gives their deepest thanks to everyone who cared for her over the past six months. Thank you to the staff at Arbutus, UPMC Shadyside Hospital and especially Conemaugh Hospital’s palliative care unit. Your kinds words, patience and care meant everything to us. Jean’s life will be privately celebrated on Tuesday March 28th from 9AM-noon at Hindman Funeral Home, 1521 Frankstown Road, Johnstown, PA. Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 at St. Therese Catholic Church with Rev. Bernard Karmanocky, OMF. Interment, Grandview cemetery.
