Obituary

Altemus, Charles R., “Chi and Chizzie”, 91, Johnstown died September 26, 2009 at Laurelwood Care Center. Born November 24, 1917 in Johnstown, son of the late Charles “Ray” Altemus and Ethel Leona Seigh. Preceded in death by wife, Rachel M. (Slippy) Altemus, December 27, 2008, to whom he was married to for 59 years; siblings Herbert, Albert “Wayne” and Alyce Altemus.

Survived by son, Bruce J. and wife Andrea (Mikula) Altemus, Johnstown; granddaughter, Sara B. Altemus and fianc J.D. Waechter and grandson Aaron K. Altemus. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Thompson) Altemus and Goldie (Mundorff) Slippy and special nieces Kay Deem and Sharon Gallaher.

Charles was a U.S. Army medic in WWII, former Boy Scout Leader of Troop 182; a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and a Sunday School teacher for many years at Calvary United Methodist Church, where he was a lifelong member. He retired with 30 years of service as a craneman for Bethlehem Steel Corp., Gautier Division.

Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Wednesday at the Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave. Funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Pastor Don Brauer, officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery with graveside military rites by the VFW Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team.
