Obituary

Smith, Ralph P. after 91 years his journey on Earth ended on September 20, 2012. Born April 8, 1921 in Johnstown; son of the late Ralph P. Smith and Marian (Kuntz) Smith-Fick. Preceded in death by wife, Irma G. (Hoffman) Smith. Survived by sons, Terrance L. Smith Sr. and wife, Wanda; Ralph P. Smith Jr; Jeffrey L. Smith and wife Diana (Bachorz), all of Windber; daughter, Kathie L. Lushko, Johnstown; son, Terrance L. Smith Jr. and wife, Misty, Elizabethtown; 10 beautiful grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and compassionate and devoted best friend Tom, who brought out Ralph’s sense of humor. His great-grandson Rylan Lushko generously showered him with happiness and joy. Ralph was a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of 1940. He enlisted into the Army in 1942 and was a WWII Veteran. He served as Technician 5th Grade Co. D. 333rd Regiment with an honorable discharge. Owner of Ralph P. Smith Roofing & Metal Co. for 50 plus years. He loved life and worked hard. Ralph refused to consider retirement. He was always there for family and willing to help those in need. He loved a good poker game and pinochle. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Johnstown. Sincere thanks and appreciation to Pastor Brian Armen and our Trinity Family. May God bless all of the dedicated staff at the Church of the Brethren Home who gave their devoted time to care for him. We are thankful to have met so many special friends there who touched his heart. Kindness extended to his roommate Ronald Weaver. Special thanks to the endless care he received by Dr. Malkhey of Gray Medical Assoc. and Windber Hospice. There will be no viewing at his request and services will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 Ash St. Johnstown, PA or the American Heart Foundation.
