Obituary

Gary J. Neff, 74, of Johnstown, died Monday, June 15, 2020, at his home with his wife, Carol Zonin Neff by his side. Born May 18, 1946 in South Fork, he was a son of the late Michael A. and Fern C. (Betz) Neff. Gary was predeceased by brother Michael Eugene (Gene) Neff and sisters Lois Ann Townsend and Carolyn Marie Lefort. Gary and Carol celebrated 32 years of marriage on May 18, 2020. Gary was proud of his service to the US Navy, having served aboard the USS Springfield throughout the Mediterranean in the 1960’s. He had many embarrassing stories to tell about his shore leaves in Italy and France, and enjoyed talking about his exploits. Gary was employed by Penn Furniture in Johnstown for many years and later at Lowes in Johnstown. Gary liked hunting and fishing when he was younger, and enjoyed playing cards into the wee hours of the day. He rooted for both the Steelers and the Pirates, although his opinions on team management can’t be printed. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Gary Neff, Jr., Paul Neff, and J. Michael Neff, and daughters, Laura Mills and Dawn Fetsko, stepdaughters Autumn Moore and Lori Burns, and two sisters, Deborah Garcia (Jesse) and Patricia Alters (Dan), along with quite a few nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
