Obituary

Mattes, Larry S., 70, Johnstown, passed away March 11, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. Born June 23, 1950 to the late Homer and Lucy Lucille (Logue) Mattes. Preceded in death by infant sister, Sherry Lou Mattes. Survived by wife of 50 years, Barbara (Trohanowsky) Mattes; children, Jeremy Mattes and wife Amy Rosella; Lori Shropshire and husband Thomas; grandchildren, Alison Mattes; Abbey Rose and Waylon Edward Shropshire; siblings, Sharen Balazik and husband Donald; Homer Mattes, all of Johnstown; Diana Abbey and husband Terry, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was a Vietnam Veteran, proudly serving in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was a member of the DAV, VVA, Blinded Veterans Association, and military order of the Purple Heart. At Larry’s request, services will be held privately. Donations may be made in Larry’s memory to the Vietnam Veterans of America 364 Chapter, Johnstown.
