Obituary

Darby, William James “Jim”, 85, Johnstown, passed away September 17, 2023, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born September 17, 1938, to the late Robert and Nellie (Shingler) Darby. Preceded in death by sister, Sueann Matolyak and husband Joseph “Lefty”, and sister-in-law, Cathy Darby. Survived by loving wife, Shirley (Mack) Darby; children, James “Jim” and wife Lisa; Donna Arrietta and husband Raul; Robert Darby and wife Erin; Tracey Kabus and husband Richard; 14 grandchildren; and brothers, Robert Darby and wife Mary; and Raymond Darby. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a proud retired fire fighter, having served 25 years in Plainfield, NJ. He also thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Tremont Club. Family would like to thank the doctors and palliative care staff at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for the compassionate care they provided to Jim. A memorial service and military honors will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday September 20th at Greater Johnstown Christian Fellowship. Pastor Jim Gay, officiating.
