Obituary

Grattan, Francis J. “Frank”, 88, of Johnstown, entered eternal life unexpectedly January 6, 2024.  Born August 14, 1935 to the late Lawrence and Frances (Jerneycic) Grattan in Dunlo, PA.   He was preceded in death by parents, wife Glory of 65 years and son in law Larry (Diane) Lopez.  He was the last of 8 siblings, all who preceded him in death, Patrick, Bernard Edward, Dennis (Judy), Alda; Dorothy, Caroline, Mary Jane. He is survived by daughters Diane Lopez (Johnstown) and Karen Walker (Johnstown) as well as granddaughter Francesca Walker and fiancée Dan Robinson (Pittsburgh). He is also survived by sister-in-law Judy Grattan, brother and sister-in-law Ron and Mary Ann Edmundson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews especially planting buddies Amy and Tom Kakabar, Erin, Mark, and Lauren Schiffhauer; and goddaughter, Mary Grattan Colledge. Also, dear friends Donna and Vince Rzasa. Frank was employed at Mercy Hospital, retiring after a long career in maintenance. He pursued his love of farming by purchasing a farm in 1975 and spending summers tending the crops that he planted.  He shared the bounty of his harvest with others and with the Salvation Army kitchen being a regular recipient. He was already making plans for this year’s garden. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son in law Larry. Fly fishing with Father Clement Gardner and his group hunting trips out west were some of his favorite adventures. Proud of his Irish heritage he was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) society where he enjoyed the community of friends. He was conferred the honor of the 4th degree in 1998. He was a fish stocking supporter for Tub Mill. He appreciated his neighborhood community and loved living there independently.  Frank, a father, a grandfather, an uncle, a friend to many lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed.   In his memory donations can be made to: The Salvation Army kitchen (Johnstown), the St. Clement Church food pantry or a charity of your choice. Family will receive friends on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 10:00 -11:00 A.M. at St. Clement Church where mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 A.M.  The AOH will hold a prayer service at 10:45.
