Obituary

George William Bills, Jr., of Hastings, Pennsylvania (formerly Pittsburgh, PA) passed away surrounded by his daughters at UPMC Altoona on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. He was 79. He was born to the late George William Bills, Sr. and Margaret Letizia Bills on January 11, 1945, in Spangler, PA.  After receiving his undergraduate degree from Saint Francis University in Loretto, George taught social studies in Fairfax, Virginia. He then received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Howard University School of Law in Washington, DC. Admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 1974, George maintained his own law firm in Pittsburgh up until his death. A successful criminal defense attorney, he was passionate and charismatic in the courtroom. He defended each client with respect and dignity until their case was complete.  Sally Frick, his longtime friend and legal associate, was instrumental in George’s practice and continues to facilitate his legal legacy. George was an avid outdoorsman who often retreated to Cambria County to spend weekends hunting, fishing, and trapping.  George was never without a dog by his side.  He leaves behind his beloved bird dogs, including his best buddy, Major.  He tried diligently to persuade each of his three daughters to take an interest in hunting and fishing but was unsuccessful. His daughters did however inherit his passion, stubbornness, determination, work ethic, and love of rigatoni. George leaves behind three daughters, Anne (Brian) Zachetti of Warren, Ohio; Martina (Elijah Underwood) Bills of Huntington, West Virginia; and Alexis (John) Sheehan of Mt. Lebanon, PA. He is also survived by five granddaughters: Isabella (Izzi) Zachetti, Gianna Johnson, Margaret (Molly), Kate and Lily Sheehan. George and Izzi loved playing with the dogs, going on quad rides, releasing gamebirds, and shooting basketball. We would like to thank our cousin Bryan Link for his support as well as his Hastings family and friends. A special thank you to all the nurses at UPMC Altoona who tirelessly took care of him during his short stay. A private funeral and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Victories Animal Rescue in Ona, West Virginia at littlevictories.org.
