Obituary
Ronald Kenneth Koontz, age 55, of Johnstown, PA, passed away on June 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy built on laughter, loyalty, and love.
Born January 17, 1970, Ron graduated from Greater Johnstown Vo-Tech in 1988 and went on to forge a life full of hearty humor, hands-on ingenuity, and home-brewed excellence. Whether he was working with his hands or cracking a perfectly timed joke, Ron had a unique knack for bringing people together and keeping spirits high.
He is survived by his cherished daughter, Jordyn Koontz and her fiancé Matthew Wilk; his loving partner, Mary Jane Thomas Anderson. He also leaves behind his devoted mother, Carolyn Kean and stepfather Mack Kean; his brothers, Robert James (Jewel), Thomas William, David Scott (Christina); and his sister, Debra Lynn (Chris Ritko). Ron is preceded in death by his father, William (Bill) Koontz Jr.
A diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Ron proudly sported black and yellow, even in the off-season and when he lived in England. His game-day energy was only rivaled by his talent for home brewing – crafting beers that were as bold and balanced as the man himself. Friends fondly recall tasting his “Noble Hops” and “Sunday Stout,” which often made appearances during backyard gatherings.
But perhaps Ron’s proudest creation – apart from his daughter – was a gazebo he designed and built in Mississippi. Crafted with his signature precision and heart, it stood unshaken through the ferocity of Hurricane Katrina, a quiet testament to his strength and craftsmanship.
A service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held by Hindman Funeral Home on Frankstown Road in Johnstown on July 1 at 11:00 am. His burial will be at Daley Cemetery, Somerset County next to his grandmother, Lorna Fleegle.
Though his jokes, cheers, and brews will be missed, Ron’s spirit endures in every belly laugh, every game-day celebration, and every corner of the gazebo that weathered the storm – just like he did.
Family will receive friends from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Hindman Funeral Homes, 1521 Frankstown Road, Johnstown, PA 15902.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Prostate Cancer Society in Ron’s memory.
