Obituary
James D. McCall, 79, of Upper Yoder Township died on August 3, 2025. Born September 4, 1945, in Johnstown, to the late Forrest “Eggs” and Elizabeth (Horenchak) McCall. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Mary Jane MacBlane and husband George; brother, John McCall; nephew, Charles Tyner; and Shirley Tutoro, who was like a mother to Jim. Survived by wife of 58 years, Georgia (Koterba) McCall; special niece and nephew, Diana and George Purpiglio; nieces, Shannon Tyner and late husband Charles; and Jamie Camargo and husband Hayden. Jim graduated in 1963 from East Conemaugh High School. He received 10 varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. He was on the all scholastic football team, played 6 years in the Johnstown Junior League and was all-star 5 years at third base. Jim retired from Bethlehem Steel, 14” Gautier with 30 years of service. He also managed McCall’s Lanes for 12 years. For 35 years, Jim was an avid rubber band duckpin bowler. He won the Tribune-Democrat bowling tournament 7 times and was inducted into ARBDC Hall of Fame in 1988. He is listed in the book “Johnstown the Story of a Unique Valley” on page 734. He was one of the top ten duckpin bowlers in the history of Johnstown. Jim was a fan of all sports, followed the Johnstown Mill Rats, loved to talk and tell stories, and never missed a Blue Grass Festival. He was a good son, brother, husband, and friend. Jim will be deeply missed. There will be no viewing or public service. Family will be holding a private ceremony to celebrate Jim’s life.
