Obituary

Calvin George Sellers, Sr. was a cherished member of the Johnstown community and a proud graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 1958. He was a devoted husband to Edna Jane (Miller), sharing 64 beautiful years of marriage built on love, faith, and family.

He was the beloved father of Calvin George Sellers, Jr. (deceased), Dona Pollino, Cathy McNair, Bonnie Devlin (Joe), Matthew Sellers (Heather Price), Christa Statler (Bill), and Angie Youngbauer (Troy). His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward his spirit of kindness and strength.

Calvin was the loving son of Paul and Lavadia (Orris) Sellers, and a devoted brother to John Orris, Marie Smith, Walter Sellers, William Sellers, Robert Sellers, Sr., and Lavadia (Miller), as well as the late Lester Sellers, Jackie Sellers, Eric Sellers, John Sellers and stepbrother to Virginia Rae Nardecchia.

As a grandfather, Calvin was nothing short of extraordinary. He leaves behind a large and loving family, including Calvin George Sellers III, Bethany Mollette (Brett), Jesse Sellers, David Pollino Jr., Daniel Pollino (Sheri Britton), Darla Ochenrider (Donnie), Xavier McNair (Ani), Jasmine Peppins (James), Heather Devlin, Austin Devlin, Rachel Devlin, Alex Devlin, Matthew Sellers Jr. (Laura), Chelsea Stephens (Andrew), Brittany Mancini (Arman), Corey Statler (Theresa), Jacob Statler (Jasmin), Kacey Castiglione (Cody), Tyler Youngbauer, Eden Youngbauer, Julia Youngbauer—and 24 great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.

Cal worked for many years at the Conemaugh Generating Plant where he served as the IBEW 459 Shop Stewart from 1971-1985 and was the founding member of the plant retiree group. Previous co-owner of Bob and Cal’s Oshkosh B’Gosh clothing store and Glow Manufacturing Fiberglass production. He served as a trustee at Homestead Avenue Church, was previously President for the Johnstown Methodist Men’s group, coordinated and hosted Men’s mountain-pie breakfasts enjoyed by multiple congregations.

He enjoyed poker night with his friends, a fun round of golf and watching the Steelers.

His beautiful blue eyes, his laugh, his jokes, his hugs and his love will be missed by so many, but his legacy will live on in all the lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church, 101 Homestead Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15902, a place close to Calvin’s heart.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 3:00 to 8:00 at Hindman Funeral Homes, 1521 Frankstown Road. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10:30 at Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church, 101 Homestead Avenue. Calvin will be laid to rest at Oak Cemetery.
