Obituary

Muchesko, Joseph Paul, 82, Johnstown, passed away March 16, 2026, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born July 1, 1943, in Johnstown, son of the late Samuel Muchesko (1991) and Mary (Lesko) Muchesko (1994). Joe graduated from Greater Johnstown High School in 1961. He proudly served in the United States Army, enlisting in 1964. He was deployed to Vietnam from 1966-1967, serving with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. A meaningful part of Joe’s service was that he served in Vietnam at the same time as his brother, John, a bond and shared sacrifice that remained deeply significant to the family. Joe’s decorations and honors included: Vietnam Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and Expert Rifle Badge. He also achieved the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and was honorably discharged in 1970. After returning home, Joe built a long and dedicated career with Mack Trucks, Inc. in Hagerstown, MD. He retired in 1993 after 30 years of service. Joe loved the outdoors and the simple joys of life. He especially enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles and ATVs, and walking and hiking the trails around Johnstown. Joe was a lifetime member of both the NRA and the 11th Armored Cavalry Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia (11th ACVVC). He was also a devoted member of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Cathedral. Joe is preceded in death by parents; brother, John Muchesko (1998), who served in Vietnam at the same time as Joe; sister, Dolores Muchesko (2014); brother, Sam Muchesko (2016); and Erinn Cuneo (1996) of Washington State, who’s passing deeply affected the family. Joe is survived by siblings, Mary Ann Muchesko, Westmont; Stephen Muchesko, McMurray; and Robert Muchesko, Oakhurst. Also survived by sister-in-law, Sandy Muchesko, Johnstown; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family; several close friends, whose kindness and companionship meant a great deal to Joe – Dave McMillan, Garret Tomak, Vince and Ann Gracik, Charles Cobaugh of Ohio; Ronald Staubs, Maryland; David Ribarich, Florida. Joe will be remembered for his loyalty, independence, quiet strength, and the great pride he carried for his military service and his family. His presence, humor, and steady nature will be missed by all who knew him. Family will receive friends Saturday March 21st from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave, Johnstown, PA 15906. A funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at Christ the Saviour Orthodox Cathedral. Very Rev. Protopresbyter Robert A. Buczak, officating. Committal and military honors by VFW Post 155 to follow at Christ the Saviour Cemetery.  Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
