Obituary

Henry “Wally” Hoffman Jr., a resident of Nanty Glo, PA, passed away on August 9, 2024. Wally is survived by his wife Patricia (Harbaugh) Hoffman, his brother, Richard Hoffman, His son Brian Hoffman and wife Diane (Felix) Hoffman of Ebensburg, PA, and daughter Wendy (Hoffman) Nadzady and husband Joe Nadzady of Greencastle, PA. He was the proud grandfather to four grandchildren, Trevor and Faith Hoffman, and Tyler and Kyra Nadzady.

Wally was born in Johnstown, PA on September 26, 1947, to Henry J. Hoffman Sr. and Estella Shagnon. A graduate of Johnstown High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marines as a combat engineer, and valiantly fought during the entire battle of Khe Sanh in the Vietnam War. Following his service with the Marines, Wally had a successful 29-year career with Bethlehem Steel where he became a metallurgical inspector until his retirement from the mills. Following his retirement, Wally continued serving others in many capacities. He served as a treasurer to several local churches and had a wonderful sense of volunteerism as he would offer his time and counsel to the local food pantry and public library in his community.

Wally was an encouragement to others, showing peace and joy through adversity. He left a wonderful legacy for his family through his patriotism, service, selflessness, gentleness and kindness. He was a role model to his children and grandchildren, and always showed unconditional and unwavering love for his family, especially his wife. He will be greatly missed.

A private family remembrance service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks anyone wishing to show respect or condolences to provide a donation to the Nanty Glo, PA Public Library or the Humane Society of Cambria County.
