Obituary

Amandus “Mandy” Thomas, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Born November 10, 1922; in Elder Twp., son of the late Alvin and Edna (Baker) Thomas. Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary, on October 5, 1963; and a son, Daniel “Boone” on March 23, 1978; also brothers, Clarence and Cletus; sisters, Hilda and Anna Catherine. Survived by dedicated wife of 67 years, the former Mildred Born; and children: Linda (Eugene) Huber and Peggy Watkins of Hastings; Catherine (Tom) Phillips and Edward (Laurie Pelleschi) of Ebensburg; Fred (Phyllis Sarver) of New Enterprise; Paul (Roberta Kaylor) of Alaska; Elaine (Frank) Bonanno and Chris (Teresa McConnell) of Northern Cambria. Also survived by grandchildren: Joe (Lori) Huber; Greg (Vicki) Huber; Jason (Stacy) Huber; Ryan (Briann) Huber; Geoff (Lindsey) Phillips; Amanda, Alison and Beth Phillips; Alan (LeAnn) Hessler; David (Christy) Hessler; Stacy (Jim) Bradley; Kristen (Mario) Alexander; Danny and Nathan (Danielle) Thomas; Matt, Jill and Michael (Heather) Bonanno; Samantha Thomas; and Danielle, Jonah and Holly Thomas. Great-grandchildren: Brianne, Tyler, Kyle, Anthony, Patrick, Alex, Evan and Giada Huber; Paige, Zach, Sloan, Bryce, Hayden and Ethan Hessler; Alexis and Angelo Alexander; Katie and Nicholas Bradley; Gavin and Alivia Bonanno. Brothers: John and Alvin (Glenna) Thomas; sisters, Gertrude Oldham and Elizabeth (Kevin) McMullen all of Hastings and Janet Keegan of California.

US Army Veteran serving in World War II, he was a Corporal in the Battery D 506th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion serving in the Pacific Theater, Iowa Jima. Employed at Long Hardware and Supply and Penstan from 1951-2000, Mandy was the last surviving of the original Long Hardware employees, Also, he was the last surviving charter member of the Hastings Area Industrial Development Association. Served on Hastings Borough Council for two terms. Evening Instructor at Admiral Peary Area Vocational-Technical School. Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Cambria County for nearly ten years. Member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Hastings VFW.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 333 Beaver Street, Hastings, and from 10 to 11am Monday at St Bernard Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 16 at St, Bernard Church, Father Thaddeus officiating.
Military Honors by the Hastings VFW Honor Guard.

lnurnment at St. Bernard Cemetery.
