Obituary

Roberts, Janet L. (Rippin), 81, Johnstown, died April 19, 2014 at home. Born July 19, 1932 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Walter D. and Rosella D. (Krall) Rippin. Preceded in death by husband, Raymond John Roberts; son, Richard and brother, Glenn Rippin. Survived by children, Sharon, married to George Smithwick, Rockville, MD; Mark, married to the former Paula Layton, State College; Cindy, married to Rob McCombie, Johnstown and daughter-in-law, Michelle Roberts, Johnstown. Also survived by grandchildren Melissa Way, Johnstown, Richard (Lindsey) Roberts, Hagerstown MD, Kristin Roberts, Colorado, Bryce and Sydney Smithwick, Rockville MD, Jordan and Jenna Roberts, State College, and Corey and Erica McCombie, Johnstown. Great grandchildren Joshua and Justin Way, Wyatt and River Roberts, and Nicholas and Gemma Roberts. Also survived by twin brother, Bruce Rippin, Ebensburg. As a 1953 graduate of Conemaugh School of Nursing, Janet was a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital. A member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, Janet taught Sunday school for many years. Janet was a talented artist, and avid reader. She enjoyed family vacations to the beach and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Janet will always be remembered for her sense of humor, her laugh, and her positive attitude. Despite the many medical issues she endured over the years, Janet faced adversity with fearlessness and determination. Through all the obstacles, Janet’s faith in God was unwavering. The family would like to especially thank Michelle Saintz for providing friendship, time, and care for Janet over the past few years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Tuesday at the Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave. Funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, Pastor, Philip A King, officiating. Interment will be held at Benshoff Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren or the American Cancer Society in Janet’s name.
