Obituary

DAVIS – Marcia B., 62, Windber, died after a lengthy illness August 10, 2011. Marcy was born July 18, 1949, in Johnstown, daughter of Lewis and M. Oleda (Putman) Berkey. Preceded in death by father and grandsons, Zachary and Benjamin Davis.

Survived by mother; husband, Kenneth; son, Nathaniel, married to former Ann Musser, Middleton, Wisconsin; daughter, Kirstyn, married to Timothy Caldwell, San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Kobi-Ann and Maxon Davis, Cyla and Bryn Caldwell; brother, L. Kevin (Roxann) Berkey, nieces Gwendolyn (D.J.) Greathouse, Brenda Davis, Jocelyn (Scott) Brant and Carrie Berkey; nephews Jarrod (Therese) Berkey and Ryan Davis.

Marcy was a Forbes High School graduate with BS from Bethany College, MEd and Early Childhood Specialist Certification from Penn State. She was a teacher at Windber Elementary School for 28 years, and co-owner/operator of Blueberry Meadows Mountain Chalet. Member of Phi Betta Kappa, PSEA/NEA, Windber BPW, Historical & Genealogical Society of Somerset County, Porsche Club of America and Richland Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, where she served terms on the church council. Marcy was recognized with numerous awards in her teaching career and helped organize the early childhood program at Windber during the 1970s. She was a proficient organist/pianist, an interpreter at historic sites and loved sewing, canning, cooking and reading. She was proud of helping her husband construct their home by hand, of operating their rental chalet, and enjoyed traveling together. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She treated each of her students with compassion and respect and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Memorial service will be private. Donations may be made to Windber Public Library in memory of Marcy Davis. Romans 8:28, 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8. Arrangements in care of the Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.
