Obituary
Stibich, Michael Lawrence, 63, Johnstown, died August 15, 2009 in his sleep at Windber Hospice after a valiant battle with cancer. Born September 8, 1945, son of the late Edward T. “Boss” and Mary (Gilroy) Stibich.
Survived by brother John Stibich and wife Martha; sister Stephany Kelly and husband Harry Crouse; three nephews, Patrick Kelly; Michael Stibich; and John Stibich and niece Meighan Kelly Agresta; one great-niece, Caitlin Kelly Agresta; uncle, Martin Goldhaber; step-mother Louise Spiegel, Laurelview Village; step-sister Lucy Spiegel, Easton, MD; his adventure partner, Barbara McEvoy and many wonderful friends.
Michael was a 1963 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School, 1967 graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, 1970 cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, School of Law. Michael practiced law for 36 years in Johnstown and was the surviving partner of Weimer, Bennett, Jones and Stibich. He was admitted to the Cambria County Bar Association in September, 1973; former president of the Bachelor’s Club; former Sierra Club Pennsylvania State Treasurer and he was active in the Cambria County Democratic Party.
Michael was a passionate environmentalist; a superb outdoorsman with particular interest in hiking, kayaking, cross-country skiing and climbing. He was known for his pro bono work both here in Johnstown and at his former home on Smith Island, MD. Michael is dearly loved and will be dearly missed, especially when the first snow falls.
