Obituary

Renato (Ren) Ferretti 91, Hastings, died September 5, 2013.
Born September 24, 1921 in Hastings;a son of John and Angela (Mantovani) Ferretti. Preceded in death by parents, Sister, Ada Koval , brother-in-law, Andrew Koval, sister-in-law, Minnie Ferretti, aunt, Laura Pagano,and special friend, Mary Nesador.

Survived by brother Dino Ferretti, nieces, Angela( Dave) Shutty, Adele (Sam ) Piccioni, Julianne
(Chuck) Bishop, Mary (Richard) Marinari, Rose (Dennis) Harrington; nephews, John (Diane) Ferretti,
Michael (Nancy) Koval, John Koval. Also survived by great nieces, Kristen, Alyssa, Jennifer, Theresa, Stephanie,
Catherine, and Karina; great nephews, Matt, Anthony, Andy, Dennis, John, Joseph, and Dominic; great -great nieces and
Nephews, Caleb, Taylor, Elijah, and Hailey.

Ren graduated from Saint Francis College in 1943 with a degree in Chemistry. He then joined the Army.
Based on his educational background he was selected for the Manhattan Project. He next attended
Lehigh University as part of the program. His educational performance got him selected to the Chicago
Team of the Manhattan Project. Which was the development of the American Atomic Bomb. His part
was to develop a means of measuring the effect of radiation on the human body of which he
successfully did. During his work on the Manhattan Project he was in the regular company of several
Nobel Prize winner scientists.

After the war he went on to Graduate School at Georgetown University earning a Master Degree in
Chemistry.

He had a short stent as an Entrepreneur with his childhood friend Wendell Rouch. They had a
metallurgical mine in West Virginia where Ren applied his chemical background to develop a method
for separating out the good metal.

From there Ren went on to work at The Department of Agriculture for the Federal Government in
Maryland. He worked on testing many new types of food and drug products in animals to ascertain
what there effects would be on the human body. He worded there until he retired in 1984. At that time
he return d to live on the family farm where enjoyed gardening, photography, bird watching, and
enjoying lunch daily at Dino & Minnie’s.

While Ren was never married he was always a wonderful Uncle to his eight nieces and nephews and well
as great nieces and nephews. He was a gracious and giving man to all of us.For entire family he will always be remembered as Uncle Ren

Friends will be received from 4 to 9pm Friday at the Easly-Hindman Funeral Home, 333 Beaver Street, Hastings. Funeral mass at 11am Saturday at St Bernard Catholic Church. Interment at the church cemetery.
