Obituary
Robert “Bob” Sumrada went to be with The Lord February 25, 2014 at the age of 92. He joins his beloved wife Helen Sumrada (ne Waligora) and his mother Elsie Angela Sumrada (ne Modic) and father Jacob who preceded him. Born in Franklin Borough June 24, 1921 and was a member of the Franklin VFW and Franklin Fire Company. Throughout his long life he was a devoted husband, a supportive and beloved father to his two children Roberta “Bobbie” Sumrada, PhD, and his son John W. Sumrada. He will be greatly missed by his children and friends as well as Margaret Philips, John’s fiance. He cherished his children and grandchildren Matthew and Marina Sumrada and passed to them his intelligence and taught them every day by his example of unwavering personal integrity and belief in education. He loved his Cadillac and telling stories about the Army when he was a Staff Sergeant and radar technician in WW2 and traveled in Europe and Africa. He loved his Slovenian heritage. He was an avid amateur radio operator, established a two-way radio business, Bob’s Radio Service, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Slovenian Savings and Loan for over 45 years and received a silver star from Congressman John Murtha for his ideas to help protect US soldiers in battle. He was generous to anyone who needed him and loved animals and CNN and History channel and learning new things. He was the rock of our family. A celebration of his life will be held at Hindman Funeral Home at 1521 Frankstown Road from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Thursday Feb. 27. A service will follow at 11am Friday Feb. 28, 2014, Rev. Robert Ruston, officiating. Military honors by Conemaugh Valley Marine Corp. League. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
