Obituary

Conway, Bernard V. Jr., “Bernie”, 76, Johnstown, passed away Monday July 29, 2013 at Mercy Hospital , Pittsburgh, surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Sr. and Clara (Kehoe) Conway; brother, John Conway and grandson, Evan Conway. Survived by wife of 48 years, Theresa (Cucciardo) Conway; daughter, Kelli and husband Scott Herrington, New Alexandria, PA; son, Bernard III and wife Maureen (Golba), Johnstown; daughter, Erynn and husband Benjamin Mack, Johnstown and son, Daniel and wife Brande (Seese), Johnstown. Also papap to grandchildren, Connor Herrington; Ian, Delaney and Aiden Conway; Tyler and Ethan Mack and future granddaughter, Mollie Irene Conway due in September. Bernie is also survived by sisters, Mary Louise Kinol and Bernice Oleksak, both of Johnstown and numerous nieces and nephews. Bernie was a graduate of Bishop McCort and he was in the Army reserves. When he was a young man, he passed on his love of football by coaching at St Mary’s Byzantine School. In his early years, he helped run the family business, Conway’s Caf in the West End. He was then a steel worker at US Steel and in later years worked as a conductor on the Johnstown Inclined Plane where he enjoyed meeting and talking to people from all over the world. He was the elected union representative. Bernie enjoyed sharing and teaching his love of the outdoors with all of his children. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was an excellent cook who often shared his recipes and love of food with others. He was a member of St Therese Catholic Church. Friends will be received from 5 to 9pm Wednesday at Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave. Funeal Mass will be celebrated at 10am Thursday at St Therese Catholic Church. Fr Bernard Karmonocky, officiating. Inurnment will be held at St Anthony’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Johnstown Cambria County Library or Mercy Palliative Care Service at UPMC Palliative and Supportive Institute c/o Denise Stahl, Executive Director, 3600 Forbes Ave at Meyron Iroquois Bldg. Ste 405 Pittsburgh PA 15213.
