Obituary

Blackner, Carol Ann, 79, Johnstown, passed away December 20, 2025, at Hilltop Heights. Born May 3, 1946, to the late George and Anna (Kohan) Kurtz. Preceded in death by son, Eric Blackner; former husband, Derry “Bee” Blackner; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Kurtz. Survived by daughters, Lisa Blackner; Cherie Verdenburgh (Glen); granddaughters, Georganna Johnson (Jarrad); Autumn Verdenburgh (Dalton Galassi); great grandchildren, Na’Ryiah, Naomi, and Judah Johnson; brothers, Richard Kurtz; Robert Kurtz (Kathy); goddaughters, Barb Ward; Violet and Veronica Ardary; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Carol thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking and could often be found sharing her baked goods with others. She was a hostess at Carol’s Forest Park Restaurant and a cook at Blackner’s B-29 Tavern, both of which she was part owner of. Carol was a very generous person, always giving and supporting various charities. Family would like to thank AseraCare Hospice for all the comfort and compassionate care they provided to Carol in her final days.
