Obituary

Charles “Chiz” D. Rzeszut, Sr., 90, formerly of Windber, passed away on September 13, 2026, at Concordia at Arbutus Park. Born June 18, 1936, to the late Francis and Tessie (Metoher) Rzeszut. Preceded in death by wife, Joan (Gartrell); siblings, Joseph, Stanley, Theodore, John, Carl, Francis, William, Edward, Mary Rygel, Sophie Ziemba, and an infant brother. Survived by children, Karen Shima (John), Beverly Kalanish (Rick) and Charles D. Rzeszut, Jr.; grandchildren, Justin Kalanish (Kristen), Emily Kalanish, Joshua Rzeszut (Tiffany), Matthew Rzeszut (Colette); great grandchildren, Bennett Kalanish, Everett Kalanish and Aubrey Christley; sisters-in-law, Barbara Hurtack, Diana Rzeszut and Evelyn Rzeszut; also numerous nieces and nephews. Charles served proudly for 20 years in the United States Air Force in increasingly responsible positions, culminating in his retirement as a Master Sergeant. He was also a Vietnam War veteran. His Air Force posts afforded him many opportunities to experience new places and cultures.  He was very athletic in his younger years and participated in many kinds of sports. Charles also loved the great outdoors. In his later years, his hobbies turned to listening to audio books and his favorite sports games on the radio. He mostly enjoyed visits from his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends on Monday, October 5, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Hindman Funeral Home, 1521 Frankstown Road, Johnstown, PA 15902. Charles will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
