Obituary

Clair E. (“Abe” or “Cooter”) Abel, age 89, of Avon Lake OH, formerly of Lakewood OH, passed away January 2, 2026. Beloved husband of Dorothy L. (Angert) for 66 years.

Born January 19, 1936, in Hastings, PA. Son of the late John and Catherine (Rubus) Abel. Retired from General Motors in 1995. Enjoyed sports, woodworking, crafts, and visiting with friends and relatives.

Survived by wife Dorothy and three children: Mary (Tony) Krauss of Bay Village OH; Scott (Karin) of Westlake OH; Rosemary Abel of Howrah, Tasmania, Australia. Three grandchildren: Stephen (Mandi Watson) Hudec of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; Keenan Wilcox and Ava Wilcox of Tasmania, Australia. Many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by all eight siblings and their spouses: John (Vivian) of Prospect CT; Eugene (Pearl) of Bristol TN; Leona C. (Ed) Smith of Garfield Heights, OH; Ralph (Doreen) of Independence, MO; Bernard (Agnes) of St. Boniface PA; Camilla (Ed) Thomas of Maple Heights, OH; George (Jean) of Venice FL; Adrian of Cleveland, OH.

Friends received on Wednesday, January 14^th from 3-6 pm. at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home, Hastings PA.  A viewing will also precede the funeral mass on Thursday, January 15^th from 10-11 am. St. Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings PA.

Funeral mass on Thursday, January 15^th at 11am. at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings PA. Celebrant is brother-in-law Fr. James Angert, T.O.R. of Steubenville, OH. Internment at Saint Bernard Cemetery, Hastings-Elder Twp, PA.
