Obituary

Griak, David D., 75, Hastings, passed away July 8, 2021, at his home.
Born May 9, 1946 in Spangler; he was a son of Frank and Mary (Pavlock) Griak. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Constance “Connie” Griak, Antonette Hessler and husband George, nephew, Dennis Griak.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Diane M. (Henico) Griak, whom he married September 15, 1973; sons, Jason Griak and wife Missy of Hastings, Josh Griak of St. Benedict, four grandchildren Austin, Jacob, Lexi, and Brittney; brother, Donald Griak and wife Kathleen, Eastpoint, MI and several nieces and nephews.
Dave was a 1964 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School. He served in the US Navy from 1965-1969 on the USS Yellowstone AD-27. He worked at Bethlehem Steel for 13 years and then from 1979-2005 he worked at Altoona Center as a Residential Aide. He was a member of the Hastings VFW Post 1586, Hastings Fire Club and Moose Lodge 353, Patton Slovak Club, Patton Sportsmen, Carrolltown American Legion 506, Rembrandt Sportsman Club and was a life member of the St. Benedict VFW Post 7783. He was an gambler at heart, and enjoyed visiting these clubs playing rip tickets and punch boards. He was a member of Saint Bernard Catholic Church and the Retired Public Employees Chapter 13.
He coached and umpired Little League for several years in the Hastings area. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed trips to the casino with special friends Pat and Georgette. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed.
There will be a funeral mass at 11am Tuesday July 13, 2021 at St. Bernard Catholic Church.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warriors or a charity of your choice.
