Obituary

Horner, David William, 75, Johnstown, passed away April 24, 2017, at home, with his family at his side.  Born Jan. 4, 1942 in Johnstown, son of the late David Grant and Mary Jane (Anderson) Horner.  Survived by loving wife, Marian L. (Howard) Horner, ending a marriage union of 55 years; sons, David P. Horner; Todd M. Horner (Melanie); sister, Daryl S. Habel, and brother John (Jack) C. Horner (Virginia); grandsons, Kyle J.; Darren V.; and Travis A. Horner; and numerous nieces and nephews.  David graduated from Johnstown Senior High School in 1959. After graduating David joined the US Air Force.  In August of 1961 he married his high school sweetheart and the couple moved to Mt. Clemens, Michigan, where he was serving enlistment time as a member of the Strategic Air Command.  Marian had no way of knowing when Dave would return home.  He and the crew of a KC97 refueling airplane would often take off a moments notice and Dave would often call home and say he was in Newfoundland, Spain, or Greenland and she was to “take the pot off the stove, honey, I won’t be home tonight”.  The couple returned to the area in 1963 where Dave worked at Ward Trucking and U.S. Steel for the next 20 years. After U.S. Steel closed their doors in 1985 David was employed at Mihalko’s General Contracting Inc. and the Tribune Democrat’s Circulation Department until retiring in 2007. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.  He had a passion for history and spent many long hours with his grandson, Kyle, discussing politics and history.  He enjoyed television and the daily news immensely and was often teased by family and friends about “knowing more about the news and history than the commentators”. David was loved and respected by many and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or service.  The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warriors or The Humane Society. Interment, Richland Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1521 Frankstown Rd. “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
