Obituary

Dorothy (Dot/Dottie) Berchin, 88, Jonesborough, TN, passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2026; one day shy of her 89^th birthday.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Dainel Berchin, and brother, Richard Polonkey. Survived by her daughter, Bridget; son Mark; sister, Betty Lehman and Pauline Haser; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She worked in various positions from Bethlehem Steel offices to Data Consultants, Penelec, US Bank, District Court 47-3-01, and Ideal Market. She was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration in Conemaugh, where she sang in the adult choir. She also was a member of the Ladies Guild and helped in the kitchen for numerous dinners, pierogi sales, and bazaars. Shew as an avid animal lover. She was mom to Shadow/Steve, a stray black cat she found scrounging for bread put in the yard for the birds; Bubbles, Kitty, Trixie, Calvin, and the newest addition, Cheryl, another black kitten found dumped on the side of the road. She loved swimming and being in the water from a young age all the way through her life. Her dreams were realized when she got her own backyard pool. She was the neighborhood mom, AKA Mrs. B, giving love to everyone who needed it through hugs, popsicles, drinks, food, or whatever they needed.

Special thanks to everyone at Amedisys Hospice. She received the best care from her nurse, Randy, and CNA, Tiffany. Special thanks to her daily aide and friend, Kayla, who treated her with such kindness and love.

Family will receive friends on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 4:00 til 8:00 at Hindman Funeral Homes, 1521 Frankstown Road, Johnstown, PA 15902. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 10:00 at the Church of the Transfiguration, 220 Oak Street, Conemaugh, PA 15909. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Richland Cemetery.
