Shipman, Ethel, 82, Johnstown, died March 1, 2015, at Meadowview Nursing Facility of Berlin, Somerset. Born July 28, 1932, in Johnstown, to the late William and Rose (Banks) Gethers. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Willie Shipman; sisters, Juanita Hill; Phyllis Hardison; and brothers, Curtis, Chester Glen and William Gethers Jr. Survived by her children, James Shipman, Baltimore, Md.; Christine Stephens, Youngwood; William Shipman, and wife, Helen Durant, State College; and Marion Shipman, Florida; sisters, Glenna Bennett, Johnstown; and Linda Brandon, Johnstown; brothers, Harold Gethers, Florida; and Charles Gethers, Johnstown; grandchildren, Daniel Shipman, and wife, Barbara Vermeulin, New Stanton; Nathan, Jermaine, Jason and Celina Shipman, all of Florida; and Princina and William Shipman Jr., both of Johnstown; and 11 great-grandchildren. Ethel was a member of AME Zion Church. Friends will be received from noon until the time of homegoing service at 2 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., Chandler Ave., the Rev. James Johnson, officiating.
