Obituary

Holtz, Francis K. “Cheetah” – 85, Hastings, passed away January 17, 2015, at home. Born June 9, 1929 in Hastings; a son of the late Maledius and Helen (Gill) Holtz. Preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Patricia Woodley, his brothers Damian “Doc”, Russell “Hack”, Theodore “Fizz”, and Tim“Tiny” Holtz, and his sister Dolly Link. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan (Strittmatter) Holtz; children, son Ronald Holtz and his wife Kathy, Johnstown; daughter Peggy Holtz, Hastings; son Robert Holtz, Hastings; his grand children Matthew, Nathan, and Lea Holtz; his son-in- law Blair Woodley and family; his brother Dan “Bump” Holtz, his sister Jean Kazmer, and his sister Margie Entler; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Francis served in the United States Army, and worked as a Carpenter for Strittmatter Brothers, he owned the Home Plate Bar and Restaurant in Hastings from 1984-2007, he was a Life Member of the Hastings Moose and the Hastings Fire Club. He was a member of St Bernard Catholic Church and also a member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing cinch and Pinochle, and he was a fan of Pittsburgh sports. Friends will be received from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Tuesday January 20, at the Easly-Hindman Funeral Home, 333 Beaver Street, Hastings and from 10am until time of funeral mass at 11am Wednesday January 21, at St Bernard Catholic Church, Hastings. Father Thaddeus Rettger Officiating. Interment at St. Bernard Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Hastings VFW Post #1586.
