Obituary
DRAISEY — Gene D., “Mr. Gene”, 92, of Johnstown, died peacefully on May 11, 2026, while holding his wife’s hand at Windber Hospice. Born December 8, 1933, in the family home in Besalno, PA, son of Thomas and Rosella Draisey.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark; brothers Calvin (Lorraine), Forey (Ruby), Bernie (Esther) and John; and sisters Madge (Tom) Wiseman, Ginny (Jack) Clark, Phebe (Don) Tubo, and Darlene (Danny) Harper.
Survived by loving wife, Jeanne (McIntire), of 68 years; sister, Dorothy Bryent; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene graduated from Madera High School, Clearfield County and attended Cambria Rowe Business College. He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and served in Germany replacing telephone and telegraph lines throughout Germany. After serving in the Army, he worked as a lineman for Hinkle & McCoy in Georgia and was transferred to Johnstown. He then worked for Bethlehem Steel Corp. as a buyer in the purchasing department, until Bethlehem’s closing. He retired in 1993 as a purchasing agent at the Ebensburg Center.
After retirement Gene enjoyed riding his ATV “up north” with family and friends, caring for the local church, walking seven miles daily, and sitting on his front porch talking with George, Paul, Rick, Dick, Tom and Jim.
Gene was a life member of St. Benedict VFW, Osceola Lodge #515 F&A.M., Osceola Square & Compass Club and Jaffa Shrine. He also was an avid hockey fan and a season ticket holder for 50 years with numerous Johnstown hockey teams.
The family would like to thank Gina, Jess and Karen from the VA in Altoona; also Dr. Milecki and the staff at Windber Hospice.
At Gene’s request, there will be no viewing. Private entombment will take place at Grandview Mausoleum. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hindman Funeral Home, Johnstown.
