Obituary

James C. Getz, 96, Hastings, passed away on December 18, 2025. Born on June 1, 1929, to the late Charles U. and Mildred (Campbell) Getz. Preceded in death by his wife of 69 years and Tyrone high school sweetheart, Patricia (DeLong) Getz. Survived by children, Deborah DVorsak (Tony) of Beaver Falls, Charles Getz (Donna) of Beaver Falls, and James Getz (Kathy) of Revloc; grandchildren, Gretchen, Scott (Molly), Brian (Aubrey), KathyJo, and Carrie; great grandchildren, Natalie, Madeleine, Luke, Finley, and Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews. James graduated from IUP with a music ed degree, Penn State with a master’s in music, and Univ. of Rochester with a master’s in guidance counseling. He was a music teacher, then guidance counselor, starting at Hastings High, then Cambria Heights. He honorably served our nation in the AirForce and was a part of the AirForce band at Wright Patterson AirForce base. James had a passion for music and played in bands up until 2 years before his passing. James was a founding member of the Northern Cambria Community Band and was a member of the Hastings Methodist Church. Above all else James enjoyed playing games, daily crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’ honor to the Hastings Public Library or to the Hastings Community Pool. A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 1:00 til 5:00 at Easly-Hindman Funeral Home, 333 Beaver Street. A funeral service will be held the following day at 11:00 at the Hastings United Methodist Church, Hastings United Methodist Church, 162 4th Avenue. James will be laid to rest at the Union Cemetery.
