Obituary
Rovan, James C, 86, Johnstown, passed away February 25, 2024, at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 19, 1937, son of Joseph and Mildred (Flynn) Rovan. Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Theresa “Terrie” (Engbert) Rovan; children James J. (Gail); Brendan (Joanne); Peggy (Bart Zibura); Kerry (Jennifer); Sean (Sarah); Kristen (Jason Panek); Millie (Jeff Pruchnic); grandchildren, Eden (Andrew Brill); Isaac and Noah Zibura; Norah and Katerina Panek; Stella and June Pruchnic; great grandchildren, Emmett and Simon James Brill; brother, Joseph Rovan (Jan); and numerous family members, cousins, nieces, and nephews. James was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a devout catholic and member of the Church of the Visitation of the BVM. James was a 1955 graduate of Johnstown High School. He attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a teaching degree in English Literature in 1959 and received his master’s degree in English Literature in 1967. For over 40 years, James was an English Literature and History teacher in GJSD. He was a member of the National Guard and was trained as a Field/Combat Medic. James was an avid reader, history enthusiast and trivia game master. In his life, he enjoyed photography, running marathons, listening to music, singing and playing his guitar. He loved being in his garden as well and camping, fishing and hiking with his family. He also enjoyed playing 3rd base in many softball leagues with his son-in-law and close friend. Above all, James loved God and his family. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday February 29th at the Church of the Visitation BVM. Rev. John J. Slovikovski, officiating. Following mass, a private interment will be held with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’ memory to the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 1127 McKinley Ave, Johnstown, PA 15905.
