Obituary
Browning, James “Jim” V. of N. Fort Myers, FL and formerly of Johnstown, PA, passed away suddenly on March 10, 2013 following surgery at Cleveland Clinic of Florida. Born August 7, 1932 in Johnstown, son of Harland J. and Georgia C. (Stemple) Browning.
Preceded in death by parents, sisters Blanche Slippy and Barbara Fleegle, and brothers Glenn and John Browning.
Survived by his beloved wife of 60 years the former Betty Rager; children: Randy, of Johnstown, married to Cheryl (Aventi); Debra, married to Thomas Burkey of South Fork; and Roger, of Ashburn, Virginia married to Kimberly (Baur). Grandchildren: Mandy Burkey; Thomas and Tanner Browning; brother: Swan Browning, sisters: Vashti Cosgrove, Alice Rogers, and Loretta Hunt.
Most recently Jim lived at Fountain View Park in Florida enjoying life in a caring, active community and participated in numerous social activities. Jim retired after more than 30 years at Bethlehem Steel (Rod & Wire division) and moved to Florida. At one time, Jim had a barber shop on Benshoff Hill; he barbered for over 50 years. Jim enjoyed hunting and spending time with family. He was an avid ice hockey fan. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an IOOF member of Alma Lodge #523 and William F. Packer Encampment #127, and was a Past Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of Pennsylvania.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., Johnstown, PA 15906. Friends will also be received from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethern, 856 Benshoff Hill Rd., Johnstown, PA 15906. Rev. Terry Gindlesperger officiating. Interment Benshoff Hill Cemetary. Graveside military rights will be performed by the Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team. Memorial contributions may be given to the Epilepsy Foundation. Arrangements in care of the Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.”
