Obituary

Chicarell, James V., Jr., passed away on April 21, 2024. Born June 29, 1932, in Windber. Preceded in death by parents, James V., Sr. and Dorothy V. (Miller) Chicarell; sons, Vincent S., and Ted Hogue; and sisters, Lucille M. Bowen, and Madalyn L. Kovalchik. Survived by wife, Bernetta D. (Rose) Chicarell; children, James (Patricia (Shaffer)), Dianna (Charles Hanik), and Gregory; stepchildren, Cindy (John Molton), James Hogue (Karen (Shrefler)), and Patrick Hogue; special granddaughter, Heidi; grandchildren, Brian, David, Jamie, Cathy, Charles, Tom, Sam, Jake, Christopher, Patrick, Daniel, Keith, Kristin, and Amanda; and many nieces and nephews. James was active in his community in his younger years. He was a member of the Redevelopment Authority, was a past president of the Windber Jaycees, active in scouting as a scoutmaster and committeeman, and was a Little League manager and umpire for 12 years. Avid golfer associated with Windber Country Club, Northwinds, and several clubs in Florida. He played organized softball until the age of 70 and enjoyed singing karaoke. James attained 1^st Class Petty Officer as 4-year Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and is a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4795 in Windber. Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 3:00pm until the time of the memorial service at 5:00pm at Hindman Funeral Homes, 1521 Frankstown Rd., Johnstown, PA 15902. A celebration will be held at a later date.
