Obituary

Coyle, John K., 94, of Bedford, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 14, 2024. Born June 20, 1929, in New York City, son of the late John and Mary (Keenan) Coyle. Preceded in death by parents; loving wife, Sally L. (Shimer) Coyle; and sisters, Jean Gerke, Elizabeth DeVeau, and Mary Cella. Survived by sons, John K. Coyle Jr. (Tiffany), of New York City, and Terence L. Coyle, of Bedford; daughter, Tara J. Wise (Eric), of Bedford; grandchildren, Jenna Lynne and Reghan Lee; and special friends, Tom and Joann Smith. John was a 1948 graduate of William Cullen Bryant High School in Queens, NY. While living in New York City, John had retired as an NYPD officer after 20 years of service. He also was an New York City school bus driver. John met his loving wife Sally in New York City as well. He then moved to Bedford, PA, where he worked for the Area Agency on Aging and local post office before retiring. John enjoyed running marathons, he completed two New York City marathons and competed in many local races with his wife, Sally. John and Sally were both avid members of ProCare in Bedford. He was also a member of Rays Cove Christian Church. John was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, having served in The Korean War. Family will receive friends for a memorial service at Rays Cove Christian Church, 337 Christian Church Rd., Breezewood, PA 15533, on March 24th from 10-11 A.M., with a service to follow at 11 A.M. Pastor Tom Smith, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bedford County Humane Society.
