Obituary
Cigich, Joseph V., “Pappy Joe”, 99, Mineral Point, passed away November 16, 2024. Joseph was born on February 28, 1925, in Johnstown. The son of the late Stephen and Elvira (Cindric) Cigich. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorathea; and his siblings, Edward, Charles, Louis, Stephen, Leonard, Matilda, Patricia, and Mary Louise. Survived by his companion, Carole B. Cigich; his children, David, married to Betty (Yefchak) of Chesapeake, VA, Richard, married to Michele (Lutz) of Englewood, FL, and Debra, married to August Rodkey, Jr., of Mineral Point, PA; his seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his siblings, Gertrude, Phyllis, and Eileen. Joseph was very proud of his Croatian Heritage. He retired from General Telephone Co. as a cable splicer after 40 years. While working at GTE, he was one of the founding members of JSTC Emp. Fed. Credit Union. He was also a member of the “Pioneer Club”, which celebrated 20 plus years of work service, and he was involved in many activities with this club. He served as secretary for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Joseph had honorably served in the U.S. Army during WWII, specifically in the European theatre. He was a member of the Richland American Legion, Geistown VFW, Union Social Club, Croatian Fraternal Union, Geistown Boro. Council, and active member of the Democratic Party. He was an avid hunter in his younger days, but later spent 30 years enjoying Florida winters which included golfing. Now Budweiser beer will be out of business. Joseph was a long-time member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Geistown, and later St. John Vianney Catholic Church, when moving to Mineral Point. A service and interment with military honors will be planned in the future to also include a Celebration of Life honoring Pappy Joe’s 99 years.
