Obituary

K9 Officer Bas was born on February 14, 2016. He passed away on November 5, 2024, after his battle with cancer, while serving his community. Bas was the partner of Chief Don Wyar of South Fork Police Department. Bas leaves behind his immediate family, Don, Nikki, Brett, Jace, Kilo and Geno Wyar; as well as his family and fellow officers at the South Fork Police Department. Bas was a Veteran K9 Officer who proudly served Cambria County since 2017, predominantly with South Fork Police Department and part-time with Summerhill Township Police Department. Bas was trained in narcotics detection and criminal apprehension through North American Police Work Dog Association by master trainer, Bill Sombo and trainer, Justin Wardman. Over the course of his career, Bas participated in numerous apprehensions and played a vital role in removing drugs from our streets. Not only was Bas a highly-trained police dog, but he also worked within the community by visiting schools, daycares, and other community events. Bas touched the lives of many and will always be remembered for the diligent work he did in his community. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Blue Pearl Pet Hospital and Richland Veterinary Associates for the outstanding care they provided for K9 Bas. A last call will be held on November 9, 2024, at 10 A.M., line up beginning at 9 A.M. at the South Fork Police Department, 507 Maple St., South Fork, PA 15956. K9 Bas’ final ride will take place after the last call, procession will leave 507 Maple St., left onto Grant St. to Railroad St., make a right and follow Railroad St. to Summerhill Twp/Wilmore making a right onto Main St., Wilmore PA to Church St. to Spring St. to Walnut St. to Main St., back to RT 53 towards South Fork, making a left onto Main St., South Fork, out to Lake St., onto Rockville Rd., to Ragers Hill Rd., to Frankstown Rd., ending at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd, Johnstown, PA 15906.
