Obituary
Lois Saylor Jenkins, 91 died in her “pretty little house” Monday February 26, 2018. She was at peace and sleeping. Lois died the way she lived her life, her way. Lois was the second of four girls born to Roy Saylor and Ruth Spangler Saylor. She was born in Somerset County but lived most of her life in the Johnstown area. She was a former Girl Scout leader, a member of the Ferndale Historical Society and a long-time active member of the Ferndale United Methodist Church. Lois was a proud graduate of Ferndale High School and graduated from Cambria Rowe Business College. She worked at National Radiator and still ate lunch monthly with her fellow former employees. Lois was the intake person at Memorial Hospital’s emergency room. She loved her work, friends and most of all being Granny. Lois is predeceased by her parents, husband Bill Jenkins, sisters Doris Bynum and Betty Ann Condo, brothers in law Fred Condo and Don Mitchell, niece Peggy Condo Geyer, her daughter Jill Jenkins Miller Rodgers and tragically, her grandson Carl Miller. Lois is survived by her daughter Janice Jenkins Acevedo and husband Herb Acevedo. Grandchildren Jonson Miller and wife Jo Freehand, Angie Acevedo McConnaughhay and husband Drew McConnaughhay, Alana Acevedo Benavides and husband Mario Benavides, Jr. Great grandchildren Erinn and Conrad Miller, Kade and Kaylianne McConnaughhay, Mario III and Marco Benavides. Great-great grandchildren Coraline and Calliope Saldano, sister Patty Woodnorth and husband Don, nephew Brant St. Clair, niece Linda Mitchell and husband Brian Youll, nephew David Mitchell, wife Liz and daughter Allison, great niece Elizabeth Povich, great nephew Ricky Povich, niece Kathleen Condo, nephew David Condo and wife Bernadette, nephew Jim Condo, great nephew Stephen Geyer, and great niece Shannon Geyer, nephew John Kermit Ramsey and wife Linda, niece, Mimi Ramsey Barnes and family. Lois was adopted by Donna Woodnorth Davis and husband Joe Davis, their boys and all of Joe’s extended family. Lois had many friends. Karen Carstison, Beverly Iachini and family, John and Marilyn Militzer, Ernie and Jackie Miller, Sue and Rick Povich, Gary Helsel (Our hero) and Karin Rosendale, her church family, the good people of the Pike Inn and many, many more. Special thanks to Windber Hospice and Ginger Taylor, RN who provided care and love. If you enjoyed Lois’s wit and love, please join us at the Ferndale United Methodist Church Saturday March 10th at 10:00 am for a celebration of a life well-lived! Lois admonished her daughter Janice when she cried, “When I die, don’t cry!” So, come in your Easter clothes. Lois would be pleased. See you there. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ferndale United Methodist Church. Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans & Family Memorial Care,” Condolences may be made at HindmanFuneralHomes.com
