Obituary
Mary Agnus Cunningham, 98, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 29, 2026. She was the beloved matriarch of a close-knit family and a warm-hearted friend to many. Mary was a kind and loving mother and grandmother who lived each day with a joyful spirit and a passion for life.
Born and raised in Johnstown, Mary will be remembered for her boundless love and zest for life. An avid traveler, she explored new places even in her later years. She loved dancing, never missing a chance to sway to her favorite songs. Mary could be spotted taking her daily brisk walk through the neighborhood or enjoying a lively exercise class at the senior center. She greeted each day with gratitude and a radiant smile, inspiring all who knew her to find joy in every situation.
Mary’s life was deeply guided by her devout Catholic faith. She was a longstanding member of St. John Gualbert Parish, where she attended Mass faithfully and dedicated many hours to prayer. Her unwavering devotion to God and commitment to the Church’s teachings were evident in her compassionate spirit and generous heart. She often said that her faith was her greatest source of strength, and she instilled in her family the importance of love, kindness, and service to others. Mary’s family was the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent together. She shared 44 years of marriage with her late husband, William Cunningham, who preceded her in death. Together, they raised three children with love and devotion. She is survived by her children: David Cunningham and his wife Kathy of Oldfields, West Virginia; Ronald Cunningham and his partner Linda of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; and Donna Butts and her late husband Douglas of Memphis, Tennessee. Mary was the proud and adoring grandmother of two grandchildren, Michael Cunningham and his wife Stephanie of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Daniel Butts and his wife Whitney of Memphis, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Sophia Graisa and siblings Katie, Steve, John, Joe, Frank, Rudy, Mike, Margaret, and Ann.
Mary’s family will forever cherish her memory and the countless blessings she brought into their lives. Her warmth and unwavering positivity will continue to inspire them and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
