Obituary

Mary Jean (Baker) Sharbaugh, 86, of Ebensburg passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.

Born on April 2, 1940, in Spangler, PA, Jean was the beloved daughter of Regina (Luther) Baker and Clement Baker. She grew up in Carrolltown, PA, where she graduated from John Carroll High School and attended Indiana Hospital School of Nursing.

Jean dedicated much of her life to caring for others through her work in healthcare. She retired from Ebensburg Center, where she was also actively involved in advocating for her fellow employees and held the elected position of Vice President of AFSCME Council 13 for many years.

Jean was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love of family. She had a lifelong passion for genealogy and spent many years researching her family history. She also generously contributed her knowledge and research to the Cambria County Historical Society and various publications throughout the years. Her love of history and family stories was something she cherished and proudly shared with others.

Above all, Jean treasured her family. She especially loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and took great joy in being part of their daily lives. Her family was her greatest source of happiness and the memories she created with them will be cherished forever.

Jean was preceded in death by parents; beloved husband, William Sharbaugh Jr.; brother, William Baker; and sister, Barbie Williams.

She is survived by daughter, Patricia Henry (Galen) of Lilly; granddaughter, Corlyn McConnell (Trent) of Ebensburg; great grandchildren, Ty, Aurora, and Levi of Ebensburg; brother, Gerald (Barbara) Baker of South Carolina; brother-in-law, Joseph Sharbaugh, Kilean, Texas, Sister in law’s Arlene “Sis” Baker of Carrolltown, Linda Sharbaugh of Ebensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, family, and a deep appreciation for the history and stories that connect generations. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will live on through the family she cherished so dearly.

Respectfully following Jean’s wishes, there will not be a traditional funeral service. A graveside memorial service will be held at the mausoleum at Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00am. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Jean, share memories, and celebrate her life.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to The Entire Conemaugh Regional Hospice team. Their love, compassion, and exceptional care that they provided to Jean will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Conemaugh Hospice.
