Obituary

Richard Dean “Rich” Gary, 63, from Nanty Glo, took his final ride on March 2, 2025. He passed at home surrounded by his family after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on July 27, 1961, in Johnstown, to the late Dean and Alice (Pletcher) Gary. Rich raised three sons, Travis, Jared, and Tyler with his former spouse, Opal (Wachs) Gary. Survived by his loving girlfriend, Susan (McCoy) Morris, Nanty Glo; his three sons, Travis, Jared, Tyler, and Dominic; one loving grandson, Grayson; granddog, Casper; sister, Roxanne George (Alfred), Mundys Corner; nephews, Nick (Kristina), AJ (Phylicia), Ben (Penney), Dianne Hoover, Westmont, Abby Hoover, and Sam Hoover; and aunts, Sis, Jean, and Wanda. Richard made lifelong friends as he traveled throughout the area as well as owning a business, M&G muffler, which he owned for 38 years. Over the years he attended many of his sons’ sporting events and volunteered at their school. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling, lending a helping hand, and most of all grilling for his family and friends. Richard was a very active member of Summit Chapel United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rich’s honor to Summit Chapel United Methodist Church, 2142 William Penn Ave., Johnstown, PA 15909. A celebration of his life will begin with a service at Summit Chapel United Methodist Chapel, 2142 William Penn Ave., at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2025. A final farewell to Rich will be held at The Pit Stop, 3840 William Penn Ave., at 7:00 pm on March 15, 2025.
