Obituary

McDowell, Richard E. Jr., 71, Johnstown, passed away November 28, 2016 at James E. Van Zandt VA Hospital. Born April 3, 1945 in Baltimore, he is a son of the late Richard Sr. and Doris Taylor (McMullen) McDowell. Preceded in death by his parents; his brother Lawrence McDowell; his step-brother David Taylor; and his step-brother Danny Taylor. Survived by his Fiancée Dee, Windber; his daughter Shelena , Johnstown; his step-son Justin; his grandchildren Elijah and Jalyssa, his step-grand-children Kaitlyn, Mikayla, Matthew, and Zachary; his siblings Doris Kalinyak, Johnstown; Ronald McDowell, Johnstown; his step-brother Raymond Taylor, Mineral Point; his step-sister Kimberly Wolfe, South Carolina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was a Clerk at the Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles Drivers Center, and formerly worked for Bethlehem Steel, and a proud U.S. Navy Veteran. Richard was a member of the Conemaugh American Legion, as well as the Catholic War Vets. He enjoyed hunting with his brother Larry and his nephew Larry Jr., he loved playing baseball, he loved his family especially his grand-children. At the request of the deceased, services will be private. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of James E. Van Zandt VA Hospital, for the excellent care they provided for Richard.
