Obituary

Whorl, Robert Dean, 83, Johnstown, passed away March 6, 2023. Born September 24, 1939, son of the late Wilbur and Janet (McLaughlin) Whorl. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie Clair (Scarletta); children, Michael (Julia), Robert (Joyce), Jason (Billie); grandchildren, Ruby, Lily, Chloe, Olivia, and Seth Whorl; step-grandson, Charles Murphy; step-great-grandchildren, Sophia and Nicholas; special nephew, Kevin Whorl; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was employed as a Lieutenant at the Johnstown Police Department and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Robert was an avid sports fan, always rooting for the Washington Commanders and Duke basketball. Robert loved a good wager; from betting on basketball to the daily number, he found joy and friendship in the hobby. Robert was proudly involved in his community as the former basketball coach and booster’s president for West End Catholic and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Robert was a gentle man who radiated steadfast loyalty to his family and beyond. He will be missed more than words can describe. Friends and family will be received on Friday from 4-8p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes, 1521 Frankstown Rd., Johnstown, PA 15902. A service will be held on Saturday at Hindman Funeral Homes, 1521 Frankstown Rd., Johnstown, PA 15902, at 11a.m..
