Obituary
Goas, Robert F. Jr., died on August 21, 2025, at the age of 99. Born March 7, 1926, in Johnstown, PA, to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Sweeney) Goas. Preceded in death by beloved wife, Mary, who died in 2024; parents; sisters, Rosemary Kulick; Julia A. Goas R.S.M.; brother, John F. Goas; infant son, Robert Francis Goas; daughter-in-law, Michelle (Pahl) Goas. Survived by children, Mary A. Kirkpatrick, Florida; Julia A. married to Dr. Brian Melnick, Pittsburgh; Patrick J., Johnstown; John J. married to the former Michele Pagano, Johnstown; Robert S., Somerset; Elizabeth Sites, Maryland; Anita married to David Diesen, Arizona; Joseph F. Sr. married to Jerri Anselmo, Exeter, PA; Thomas A. married to former Allison Byrum, Florida; grandchildren, Timothy, Luke, Peter, Laura, Susan, Nicole, Lisa, Emily, Alicia, Kathleen, Griffith, Robert, Joseph, Alexandria, Hannah, Matthew, Angela, Karlina, Jacob, Thomas, Leah; and many great grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Mary Jane Mathure, Connecticut; and Elizabeth wife of Richard Sheridian, PA; Robert was Oblate of St. Benedict, St. Vincent Archabbey, member of the 4th Deg. Fr. David Dodson Assy, Boswell, PA, past Grand Knight K of Council #8979 of Davidsville, PA, Charter member of Knights of Columbus Council #4604, Charter member Forth Deg. All St. Assembly, Johnstown. He was a life member of the 1st Marine Division Assoc., as well as a life member of the 3rd BN 1st Marine division, Conemaugh Valley USMCL, VFW Post 155, and D.A.V. CH #2. Robert was a member of USMCL Devil Dogs, B.O. Elks, served in the South and Central Pacific Theater, Guadalcanal and Peleliu with the USMC WWII. Robert was also a Purple Heart recipient. Retired plumber/pipe fitter/steamfitter Local #354 United Association, member of the American Welding Society since 1958, member of the Sanitary Board of Richland Township, Deputy Constable Precent #8, member of South Fork Rifle Club, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and member of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Robert was also a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church of Windber. Family would like to thank the entire staff at McCullough Place for the compassionate care they provided over the past 4 years, as well as Grane Hospice. Family will welcome friends Tuesday August 26th from 12-1 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Benedict Church. Committal and military honors by VFW Post 155 to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
