Obituary

Robert S. Berezansky, 71, of Johnstown, PA, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

He was born on May 14, 1954, in Johnstown, PA, to George and Helen Berezansky. Robert attended St. Columba Catholic School, Garfield Junior High School, and Johnstown High School.

Robert began his career at Bethlehem Steel. When the mill closed in the 1980s, he enrolled at St. Francis University, where he earned his Accounting degree. He went on to enjoy a successful 24-year career in banking, working to help build many local businesses and create opportunities for entrepreneurs.

He married Janet Labuda, and together they shared 33 years of marriage. They raised two sons, Robert (married to Elmira Aleeva, residing in Ladera Ranch, CA) and Adam (married to Victoria Hawley, residing in Redmond, WA). He was a proud grandfather to Masha, who was the joy of his life and the subject of his conversations with nearly everyone he met.

Robert enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling out West, Montecristo cigars, Jimmy Buffett’s music, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved his prized Golden Retriever, Bella, who was a loyal companion until her passing in 2024. He was a proud member of the Ferndale Sportsman Club and the Polish National Alliance. He also cherished his Slovak Christmas Eve dinners, a tradition that reflected his love of family and heritage. Robert was known for his generosity, always willing to help others, and he will be remembered for his strong work ethic, fun-loving personality, and the joy he brought to those who knew him best.

He is survived by his brothers, John (and his love, Judy) and David (and his wife, Joy), whom he deeply loved and cared for, as well as his sister-in-law Donna, wife of his late brother George. He is also survived by numerous special uncles, Nick, Paul, and Frank; aunts Eva, Bev, and Martha; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George; mother, Helen; brother, George; and his beloved Golden Retriever, Bella.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Greenhouse Park (first pavilion on the left), 121 Greenhouse Road, Johnstown, Pennsylvania 15905. More details can be found under the ‘Gallery’ tab.
