Obituary

Thomas, Sandra P., 84, Windber, passed away July 26, 2024, at Windber Woods. Born January 19, 1940, to the late Stanley and Gertrude (Holland) Barkley. Preceded in death by siblings, Richard, Thomas, Faye, Gayle, Judy, and Janice. Survived by loving husband of 65 years, R. Dean Thomas; children, Lori Slack (Danny); Tammy Allaman (George); M. Dean Thomas (Reena); Jeff Thomas (Heather); brother, David (Tammy); seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Sandy was a devoted stay-at-home mom until her children grew up. She then worked as a CNA at Laurel Crest Manner then in the bakery at Walmart until her retirement. Sandy was known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills that made her cookies popular at local weddings.  Sandy was a hard worker who gave her all to any project she was doing. She was a lifetime member of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren where she participated in a wide variety of women’s groups. Sandy was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family fiercely. She will be sadly missed by all. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, August 1st at 11:00 am at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sandy’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org or a charity of your choice.
